How to Replace an audi Tt key replacement G28 Engine Speed Sensor

In this video Charles the Humble Mechanic shows how to replace the G28 engine speed sensor. The sensor is located at the edge of transmission over the flywheel gear. It sends a signal to the ECU via the grey wire (T55/49) and then to the tachometer in the instrument cluster.

1. Engine Speed Sensor

It is located on the outside of the transmission, above the flywheel ring gear, the G28 Engine Speed Sensor sends signals to ECU pin T55/49 through an uncolored wire. The ECU then uses this information to control fuel, timig and boost. It also sends signals to the G5 tachometer inside the instrument cluster.

The sensor is used to connect the G40 Camshaft position Sensor. The ecu needs to know when the crankshaft is TDC and where the camshaft is located so that it can trigger spark and injectors according to the situation.

If this sensor fails the ECU will display an error code P00160 which indicates that the Crank Shaft and Intake Camshaft aren't in sync and could indicate the chain stretching or a jump link on the upper chain of timing. However, the error code won't appear on its own without additional information from other sensors (G4 and G40).

Testing can be a bit difficult as there are two different connector pins, and they perform different functions but the best way to test it is to measure resistance between the sensor and the ECU. When the sensor is functional, it should read around 1000 ohms. Check for evidence of coolant or oil in the connector bay if there are problems with this part.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, when accelerating from highway paytoll at full speed, i noticed a huge decrease in power. It was as if the engine had run out of gas. Or my injectors weren't firing. Today, i pulled out the spark plugs, three were soaked with gazoline and the 4th one was dry. I placed a tissue over each hole in the injector and when i start the engine with no sparks, the ones with gazoline jump out. The 4th one remains closed. I tried to test the ground connections of ECU pins 14,30 and 48/55. I got zero ohm. So i assume the problem is somewhere else.

I also tried to reset PID but without success. The car will start when the G28 is unplugged and runs fine when it is connected however it is experiencing intermittent misfires at higher RPM. The temperature sensor for coolant (G62) shows the wrong temperature of -49c, even if I unplug it. I also noticed that the oil gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bars when the actual pressure is zero.

I'm not sure what to do. I feel like i've pretty much eliminated everything else. But i am afraid I might have missed something. If anyone has any ideas please share them! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump of the g28 receives signals from the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter is identical to the G4 and both function in the 80 100, 200, UrS and RS2 cars so you can easily find one at a wrecking yard or at a parts store. It is simple to test them - just put your DMM into resistance mode and measure the distance between pins 1 and 2 (with the bump at the connector's end facing up). They must be infinite Ohms.

4. ECU

Our 20vt turbo (3B, AAN, ABY and ADU) engines have an ECU that must know the speed and position of the crankshaft to make decisions regarding fuel injector timing etc. To do this, it utilizes a Crank Position Sensor (G4) and an Engine Speed Sensor (G28). If either of these sensors go bad you will get codes on the diagnostic scanner which can lead to engine shutdown.

A damaged G28 sensor could result in an inaccurate speed counter for your gearbox and a gearbox which shifts more quickly than normal, or a misfire while in gear. If you are experiencing any of these problems, it is likely that your sensor is going bad and requires replacement. The good thing is that they are very affordable and readily available particularly when you're looking at an Bosch sensor, which is what we have. If you prefer, GM's version of this part would be a good option.

Hyundai.jpg5. Tachometer

A faulty engine speed sensor could be a cause for a slew of issues in your vehicle. It's a crucial component of the transmission of your audi replacement key cost because it relays information to the ECU about how fast or slow the engine is turning. If this sensor audi tt key replacement fails, it can affect the performance of the transmission and the other car's components.

The G5 engine speed sensor is located on the outside of the transmission, above the flywheel ring gear and sends a signal to the ECU at pin T55/49 through a grey wire. The ECU then uses and processes the signal to control fuel, timig and boost, and also transmitting it to the G5 tachometer in the instrument cluster. You can check the sensor for any failure by checking the continuity between it and the tachometer, between ECU pin T55/49 and the instrument cluster connection on pin T6a/1 (trace [79trace [79]) as well as between T6a/1, and the instrument cluster pin T26a/12. It should show approximately 1000 ohms resistance between these two points. This is a common feature across the audi a5 key fob 80-100-200-RS2 series, starting from the 1985 MC all the way up to the 1997 UrS AN and the 1995 RS2 DU So, you may find some good ones in wrecking yards.
