How to Replace an audi a3 key fob tt key programming (try these guys out) G28 Engine Speed Sensor

Charles the Humble Technician teaches how to replace the G28 Engine Speed Sensor. The sensor is located at the top of the transmission, above the flywheel ring gear. It transmits a signal to the ECU through the grey wire T55/49 and then to the tachometer located on the instrument cluster.

The grey wire is situated at the edges of the transmission, directly above the flywheel ring. The sensor transmits a signal via the grey wire to pin T55/49. The ECU then utilizes this information to regulate the flow of fuel, timig and boost. It also sends an indicator to the G5 Tachometer located in the instrument cluster.

The sensor is used as a reference to correlate with the G40 Camshaft Position Sensor. The ecu needs to know when the crankshaft is TDC and the location of the camshaft so it can trigger spark and injectors according to the situation.

If this sensor fails when it fails, the ECU will display a P00160 error code. This means that the Crank Shaft is not in alignment with the Intake Camshaft. It could also indicate an issue with the chain or a jump in the chain link of the upper chain. However, the code won't be displayed on its own without additional information from other sensors (G4 and G40).

Testing is a bit challenging since there are two pins for the connector and they perform different functions but the best method to test it is by measuring resistance between the sensor and the ECU. It should read around 1000 ohms when the sensor is in full operation. If you're having issues with this part, check for evidence of coolant or oil in the connector bay.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, as i was accelerating off the highway paytoll at maximum speed, i noticed a huge drop in power. It was as if the engine was running out of gas. Or, my injectors weren't firing. Today, i pulled out the spark plugs. Three were drenched with gazoline the 4th one was dry. When I crank the engine without sparks, i place a tissue on the top of each hole in the injector, the 3 drenched with gazoline leap out, however the 4th stays shut. I checked the ground connection on ECU pins 14/55/30/55/48/55/14/55/48/ I got zero ohm. I think the issue is somewhere else.

I also tried to reset PID without success. The car can start when the G28 is not plugged in and it runs perfectly when it is plugged in, but still has intermittent misfire issues at higher RPM. The coolant temperature sensor (G62) shows the wrong temp value -49c even when i unplug it. Also, i noticed that the gauge for oil pressure in the cockpit shows 2 bar, whereas the actual pressure is 0.0 when I crank up the engine.

I'm not sure what to do. I think I've all other possibilities out. I'm afraid i may have missed something. Please let me know if you have any ideas! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump in the g28 can be activated by a signal from the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter functions similarly to the G4 sender and works on the 80,100,200, UrS, and RS2 vehicles. You can easily locate a spare in a wrecking shop or a parts store. It is easy to test them: simply switch your DMM into resistance mode and test the distance between pins 1 and 2 (with the bump on the connector's edge facing upwards). They must be infinite ohms.

4. ECU

The ECU in our 20vt turbo (3B AAN ABY) engines needs to know the speed and position of the crankshaft to make decisions regarding timing of fuel injectors, etc. In order to do this it utilizes a Crank Position Sensor (G4) and an Engine Speed Sensor (G28). If you encounter a problem with either of these, the diagnostic scanner will show the codes that could trigger an engine shutdown.

The signs of a failed G28 sensor are an inaccurate rev counter in the gearbox and gears that shift faster than normal and/or a misfire when in gear. If you experience any of these issues, it is most likely that your sensor is failing and should be replaced. The good thing is that they are quite affordable and easily accessible particularly if you're looking at an Bosch unit which is what we have. Alternately, the GM version of this unit is also a great option.

5. Tachometer

A damaged engine sensor could cause a variety of issues in your car. It is an important part of the transmission in your replacement audi a3 key, as it transmits information to the ECU on how fast or slowly the engine of the car is turning. This sensor could cause the transmission to malfunction and other car components to be affected.

The G5 engine speed sensor is situated on the edge of the transmission above the flywheel ring gear and transmits a signal to the ECU at pin T55/49, via an uncolored wire. The ECU then uses and processes the signal to control fuel, timig, and boost as well as sends it on to the G5 Tachometer located in the instrument cluster. You can test the sensor for any failure by checking the continuity between it and the tachometer, between the ECU pin T55/49 and the instrument cluster connection via pin T6a/1 (trace [79]) and between pin T6a/1 and the instrument cluster pin T26a/12. You should detect an average resistance of 1000 ohms between these two points. This is a typical component across the audi replacement key service 80 100 200, UrS and RS2 range from 1985 MC through the 1997 UrS AAN and 1995 RS2 ADU, so the best parts could be found in wrecking yards.
