How to Replace an audi advance key G28 Engine Speed Sensor

In this video Charles the Humble Mechanic shows how to replace the G28 engine speed sensor. This sensor is situated on the outside of the transmission over the flywheel gear. It transmits a signal to the ECU via the grey wire (T55/49) and then to the tachometer located in the instrument cluster.

1. Engine Speed Sensor

It is located on the outside of the transmission just above the flywheel ring gear the G28 Engine Speed Sensor sends an electrical signal to ECU pin T55/49 using the grey wire. The ECU then uses this information to control the boost, fuel, and timig. It also sends signals to the G5 tachometer inside the instrument cluster.

The sensor is used as a reference point to connect with the G40 Camshaft Position Sensor. The ecu needs to be aware of when the crankshaft has reached TDC and also the location of the camshaft to trigger the spark and injectors.

If this sensor fails to function, the ECU will display a P00160 error code. This means that the Crank Shaft is out of line with the Intake Camshaft. It could also indicate a chain stretch or a jump in the chain link of the upper chain. The code won't appear without the additional information supplied by other sensors (G4 or G40).

It is a little tricky to test since there are various pins on the connector, and they all have different functions. The best method for doing this is to measure the resistance between the ECU and the sensor. When the sensor is fully functional, it should read around 1000 ohms. Check for signs of coolant, or oil in the connector bay if you have issues with this component.

2. Injectors

Yesterday accelerating full speed from highway paytoll, i experienced a big cut in power like the engine is running out of gas or injectors are not firing anymore. In the morning, i removed the spark plugs. Three were drenched in gazoline, the 4th one was dry. I placed a tissue over each injector hole and when I start the engine without sparks, the ones with gazoline jump right out. The 4th one stays shut. I checked the ground connection on ECU pins 14/55,30/55 and 48/55 I got 0ohm. I'm assuming that the issue is in another location.

I also tried to reset the PID but with no luck. The car will start when the G28 is disconnected, but it works fine when the G28 connected. However, the intermittent misfire problem continues to occur at higher RPM. The coolant sensor (G62) even if it is not plugged in, shows an ice temperature of -49c. I also noticed that the oil gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bars while the actual pressure is 0.

I'm not sure what to do. I think I've eliminated everything else. I'm worried that i might have missed something. Let me know should you have any suggestions! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump in the g28 can be activated by a signal from the RPM sensor. The GM-style sensor is identical to the G4 and both function in the 80 100 200, UrS and RS2 cars so you can easily find one at a wrecking yard or in a local parts store. It is simple to test them - simply switch your DMM into resistance mode and measure the distance between pins 1 and 2 (with the bump at the connector end facing upwards). They must be infinite Ohms.

4. ECU

Our 20vt turbo (3B AAN, ABY and ADU) engines are equipped with an ECU that must know the position and speed of the crankshaft in order to make a decision about timing of the fuel injectors, etc. To do this, audi car key cover it uses a Crank Position Sensor (G4) and an Engine Speed Sensor (G28). If you are experiencing issues with either of these, the diagnostic scanner will display codes that could cause an engine shutdown.

A malfunctioning G28 sensor could result in an inaccurate speed counter for the gearbox or a gearbox that shifts more quickly than normal, or a misfire while in gear. It is possible that your sensor is failing and requires to be replaced if you experience any of these signs. They're inexpensive and easy to locate, especially if they're an Bosch model like ours. Alternatively, the GM version of this part is also a great option.

5. Tachometer

A failing engine speed sensor could be the reason behind many issues in your car. It's an essential component of the transmission in your audi a1 key fob because it relays information to the ECU on how fast or slow the car's engine is spinning. When this sensor fails, it can cause problems for the transmission and the rest of the car's components.

The G5 engine speed sensor is located on the edge of the transmission just above the flywheel ring gear and transmits a signal to the ECU at pin T55/49, via a grey wire. The ECU is then able to process this signal to control fuel, timig, and boost as well as transmitting it to the G5 tachometer inside the instrument cluster. You can check the sensor for failure by examining the continuity between it and the tachometer, between the ECU pin T55/49 and the instrument cluster connection on pin T6a/1 (trace [79]) and between T6a/1 and the instrument cluster pin T26a/12. You should see a resistance of approximately 1000 ohms between these two points. This is a typical part that is found across the audi Replacement key cost 80, 100 200, UrS and RS2 range from 1985 MC to the 1997 UrS AAN and 1995 RS2 ADU so good parts could be found in wrecking yards.holding-car-keys-woman-in-formal-clothes-is-indoo-2021-12-27-15-52-03-utc-min-scaled.jpg
